Stella’s Journey with the Restart Scheme

In the challenging landscape of employment, people often face numerous barriers that impede their job search and career advancement. Meet Stella, a single parent with a Doctorate in Faculty economics Marketing and Tourism from overseas, who encountered several obstacles to finding work in the UK.

Stella’s journey was riddled with obstacles that hindered her job prospects. As an unemployed people in the UK, she grappled with the loss of confidence stemming from long-term unemployment. Being a single parent further added to her responsibilities and limited her availability.

Moreover, Stella faced the challenge of transferring her qualifications to meet UK standards, starting from Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English.

Supporting Stella’s Job Search

Stella’s Skills & Career Progression Coach, Alia Begum, played a pivotal role in helping her overcome these barriers. Alia recognised the value of Stella’s work experience and identified transferrable skills that could be utilised in different job roles. Alia referred Stella to various job fairs and job search clubs, expanding her networking opportunities.

Alia also assisted Stella in enrolling for Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2, which she completed. During this time, Stella secured two employments while participating in the Restart Scheme at Pathway Group, which significantly boosted her confidence. Furthermore, Alia supported Stella in pursuing coding courses to enhance her skills for her new role as an Administrator.

Stella expressed her gratitude to Alia through a heartfelt letter, emphasising the impact of Alia’s assistance on her journey to secure employment. Stella acknowledged the valuable expertise, experience, and network contacts shared by Alia, which were instrumental in her job search. She credited Alia’s support for finally finding a job and highlighted the commitment and cooperation displayed by the Restart program and its participants.
