Teresa’s journey at Pathway SkillsZone began with a short introduction to beauty, but personal reasons forced her to step away temporarily. Undeterred, Teresa returned to Pathway with renewed vigour, joining the Level 3 Combined Beauty Therapy Course in September 2023.
When Teresa initially joined the course, she faced the challenges of meeting new people and navigating educational pursuits, all while grappling with the impact of dyslexia on her studies. Nervously attending alone at first, Teresa quickly emerged as a strong and supportive group member. Constantly checking in on her peers, Teresa embodies the spirit of camaraderie that defines a close-knit learning community.
Teresa’s practical skills have flourished during her time in the program, with a commendable ability to absorb and apply feedback for continuous improvement. While confidence still poses occasional hurdles in her theoretical work, Teresa’s resilience and commitment shine through, and she is steadily building the self-assurance needed to excel in all aspects of her studies.
Beyond the confines of the traditional curriculum, Teresa’s passion for alternative therapies has set her on an extraordinary path. During a class discussion about hot stone therapy, Teresa revealed her qualifications in Reiki and a deep knowledge of crystals. Her natural enthusiasm for the subject dismantled confidence barriers, transforming her into an eloquent educator within the group.
Recognising Teresa’s potential as a mentor, Nadia Brown, her Vocational Tutor, encouraged her to demonstrate Reiki to the class. Teresa rose to the occasion and showcased exceptional skills in delivery and education. This led to the inception of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) sessions facilitated by Teresa, where she imparts the basics of Reiki to fellow learners. Delving into alternative therapies, these sessions contribute valuable insights applicable to body massage and hot stone units.
Teresa’s sessions extend beyond the technicalities of beauty therapy, delving into the importance of self-care and fostering positivity. Through activities like creating vision boards, Teresa empowers her peers to visualise personal and career goals, creating a holistic learning environment.
Encouraged by her peers’ keen interest, Teresa is exploring the realm of teaching qualifications after completing her current course. The CPD sessions have become a testament to Teresa’s potential as a teacher, and she navigates this uncharted territory with the unwavering support of the Pathway community.
