Celebrating Success of the Co-op Levy Share Service

Since the launch of the Co-op Levy Share service in May 2021, over 80 organisations have collaborated and made pledges, surpassing the target of £23 million by the end of 2023 ahead of schedule.

This service was established to address inequalities within the apprenticeship sector, with a focus on providing increased support for individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds. While data indicates that non-white British apprentices make up approximately 14% of the total across England, the Co-op Levy Share has significantly contributed to supporting 34% non-white British apprentices.

As a Patron of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Alliance, Co-op remains dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the apprenticeship landscape. In 2024, the focus will be on supporting less advantaged individuals, with a particular emphasis on charitable organisations and businesses in lower socio-economic areas.

On entering year two of my apprenticeship, I get to spend more time at work instead of college, helping me gain more practical skills, which I’ve really enjoyed. I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to study as an apprentice because it means I’ve found something I genuinely enjoy.

“I’ve managed to avoid spending time wondering what I wanted to do as a career, and I’m also making money whilst learning, which is a huge benefit! I’m currently working on passing my driving test, which will allow me to start driving to work, and create even more opportunities for me
