It is important to understand the differences between these concepts and how they can be used to create a more equitable learning space. Legal and ethical frameworks are essential for creating an environment of equality, diversity and inclusion in further education.

We need to recognise and challenge biases, and reflect on our own personal attitudes. It is important to ensure that all students and staff are treated fairly and with respect.

Course Content

  • Identify the legal and ethical frameworks that underpin EDI in the context of further education.
  • Recognise and challenging biases, stereotypes, and discriminatory practices that may affect student learning outcomes.
  • Develop strategies for creating an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and promotes respect and understanding.
  • Identify and responding appropriately to individual student needs and differences, including those related to culture, language, race, gender, sexuality, disability, and religion.
  • Suggest ways to build effective communication skills and techniques for managing challenging conversations related to EDI topics.
  • Develop an awareness of the wider social and political contexts that impact on EDI in further education, and exploring the role that education can play in promoting social justice and equality.
  • Reflect on your own personal attitudes, beliefs, and practices, and identifying areas for further growth and development in relation to EDI.
