A visit to the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire

Safaraz Ali was invited by the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Monawar Hussain MBE DL FRSA to view an exhibition of the work of Lahore born artist Ali Kazim at the Ashmolean Museum. 

Safaraz Ali and Iman Monawar Hussain go back a long time. The families of both men come from the Azad Kashmir region.

Monawar Hussain is also a Muslim chaplain at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a tutor at Eton College and founded The Oxford Foundation. This charity promotes religious and racial harmony through educational and arts-based activities.

Monawar has also devised, pioneered and successfully steered a unique programme that confronts violent extremist ideology, used to train religious education teachers in the UK.

As well as viewing the art Saf, and Monawar were able to catch up and reflect on times past.

The office of the High Sheriff is an independent non-political Royal appointment made by the Queen.
