My name’s Andy Metcalf, and I am employed by Pathway as a Functional Skills, Employability and Lean (Manufacturing) Tutor, on the Bootcamp Contract.
Prior to moving into education, over seventeen years ago, I was employed for twenty-six years in the printing industry. During this time I undertook most jobs in the industry, including as a graphic artist/proof reader, printer, finishing equipment setter/operator and I finally ended up in the planning office.
On leaving manufacturing, because of the experience I had gained in training and supporting staff in a workplace learning centre, I was given the opportunity to enter the education sector, initially as learning centre coordinator at a college in the West Midlands. While here, I was offered the opportunity to take my PTLLS teaching qualification, which allowed me on leaving to start my teaching career.
In education, I have predominantly been a Functional Skills Tutor (English, Maths and ICT). However, I have also delivered other developmental and vocational subjects, including employability skills and manufacturing, to learners from age 16 upwards, both in classrooms and on-line.
In my spare time, I enjoy pub quizzing, visiting the cinema and theatre, watching most sports and occasionally playing a few – cricket and crown-green bowling.
