From Passion to Profession: Sarah’s Journey in Early Years Education

Sarah’s career in early years education spans nearly a decade, marked by determination, professional growth, and an enduring passion for nurturing young minds. Having achieved both Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the sector. Her journey, however, has not been without detours, each of which contributed to her development both personally and professionally.

Adopting the ABC model of career development — A Job, Better Job, Career — Sarah ventured briefly into the retail sector. This experience proved to be more than a diversion; it equipped her with valuable customer service skills and offered a broader perspective on her career aspirations. Ultimately, it reaffirmed where her true passion lies, in early years education.

"instrumental part in delivering high standards"

Today, Sarah holds the role of Deputy Manager at her nursery setting, where she plays an instrumental part in delivering high standards of care and education. Her team’s recent “Good” Ofsted rating is a testament to their collective effort and professionalism. Beyond her current role, Sarah is actively working towards a Level 5 qualification in Early Years Practice with Pathway Group, a significant step towards achieving her long-term career goals.

The transition to online learning presented initial challenges for Sarah. She found it difficult to adapt to digital platforms and lacked confidence in participating during lessons. Yet, through perseverance and support, she overcame these barriers. Over the past six months, she has developed robust digital skills, enabling her to engage fully with her coursework and contribute meaningfully to class discussions. Her growing confidence and subject knowledge have allowed her to take on leadership roles in her learning environment.

"exceptional progress"

Sarah has made exceptional progress in her apprenticeship, completing 60% of the programme — significantly surpassing the expected target of 45%. This achievement reflects her ability to balance academic demands with the responsibilities of her managerial role.

Her aspirations do not stop at nursery management. Upon completion of her Level 5 apprenticeship, Sarah aims to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through university pathways, with the goal of transitioning into a teaching role within primary or early years education. Her commitment to lifelong learning and professional development reflects a deep-rooted dedication to making a positive impact in children’s lives.

"becoming a future leader"

Feedback from Sarah’s employer at Huda Nursery reinforces her growth:

“The knowledge that Sarah has gained from the Level 5 qualification is eye-opening for her.”
“The professionalism, personality, and support from Kal makes a happy apprentice.”
“Kalwinder needed to give a lot of communication to Sarah as she is very quiet.”

Sarah’s transformation from a reserved learner to a confident and skilled professional serves as an inspiration to others embarking on similar journeys. Her story underscores the importance of resilience, support, and the willingness to embrace change. With her experience, qualifications, and renewed confidence, Sarah is well on her way to becoming a future leader in the early years and education sectors.
