How to increase representation from BAME staff into senior roles – The West Midlands BAME Network

Dudley College, patron of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Alliance, is excited to share the progress and success of the West Midlands (WM) BAME Network since its inaugural meeting in November 2022. Created as a platform for BAME staff in education and various organisations across the region, the network has proved to be a powerful catalyst for change and growth.

“The impact of the WM BAME Network stretches far beyond its individual meetings.”

Over the past months, dedicated BAME professionals in the West Midlands have come together to address crucial issues and foster meaningful discussions. A primary focus has been tackling the underrepresentation of BAME staff in senior leadership roles. The network has facilitated valuable insights and ideas by engaging in open dialogue and sharing experiences.

One of the remarkable outcomes of these discussions has been the influence on college workstreams, recognising the importance of promoting diversity and inclusivity at all levels; the network’s input has led to the development of an ‘Aspiring Managers’ programme. This programme aims to equip BAME staff with the necessary skills, training, and mentorship to pursue and succeed in leadership roles within their respective organisations.

“Your presence and insights will be highly valued as we continue to strengthen the BAME network and strive for a more inclusive future together.”
