Co-op Levy Share Service: Nabilah's Apprenticeship Journey

Did you know that you can make Apprenticeship Levy Transfers using the Co-op Levy Share service?

Established in 2021, Co-op Levy Share was set up to support the growth of apprenticeships where there is underrepresentation, such as from different ethnic backgrounds or from lower socio-economic areas.

It brings otherwise expired levy contributions from donating employers into one place to provide Apprenticeship opportunities to employers that may not be able to afford to pay for the training and assessment costs of Apprenticeships.

With more than £17m raised and over 1500 apprenticeships now supported, here is one of the success stories:

Nabilah’s Apprenticeship Journey

Timeline for course: July 2022 – September 2023
Apprenticeship: Level 3 Junior Content Producer
Training provider: Juice Academy

Nabilah attended Connell Co-op College between September 2020 – June 2022 and attained a BTEC Business Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification.

During my studies, the Co-op Young Business Leaders (CYBL) program was introduced to give Connell students the opportunity to find out more about the world of work by actually working at Co-op’s Support Centre in Manchester. After a thorough interview process, I luckily got in! The CYBL work days were spread across six months, across different teams, synchronised with our exams and assignments to help us better manage time and study.

At this time, there an apprenticeship opportunity to work at Co-op Live was advertised to everyone studying at Connell, and I applied and was interviewed; I was not expecting much but crossed my fingers. I soon found out that I had got the job and started working at Co-op Live on June 6th, 2022, as a Content Assistant, supporting the promotion of the new arena in Manchester, which will be the UK’s biggest indoor arena with capacity for 23,000 fans

“Studying at Connell Co-op College has really shaped my career path. This is where I discovered apprenticeships were a thing and got the opportunity to go into the Co-op Young Business Leaders programme, which taught me many valuable skills I couldn’t have got from just studying.

I’ve always been a practical learner and soon knew the university route wasn’t for me; coincidently around this time Co-op Live was advertising an apprenticeship role supported by Co-op Levy Share and I eagerly applied and was lucky enough to get the gig.

Working at the biggest and best arena in the UK, namely Co-op Live as a Content Assistant is my dream job, and here I am, 9 months into it at just 19. Who knew you could earn, learn and get paid to make Reels!”
