Social Mobility Day: Launching of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards in Partnership with Pearson

Thursday 16th 2022, marked the first-ever Social Mobility Day, which exists to promote broader conversations about social mobility and to celebrate the organisations committed to bringing about positive change. Pathway Group took this as an opportunity to host a special event to call upon all their supporters to celebrate the fantastic work in the Further Education sector.

The event sponsored by Pearson was attended by various large employers and learning providers, including the NHS, The British Army, Severn Trent Water, IBM, BT, Travis Perkins and many more.

Over the past six years, Pathway Group has been championing and promoting social mobility, diversity, inclusion and equity in apprenticeships. It all started with the launch of the Asian Apprenticeship Awards in 2016, which then became the BAME Apprenticeship Awards and is now the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards. As well to running the awards, Pathway Group runs the Apprenticeship Diversity and Social Mobility Forum alongside what is now the Multicultural Apprenticeship Alliance.

Through the various activities, Pathway Group has recognised over 1,000 apprentices from diverse backgrounds working in several different sectors. They have challenged the government on policy, supported employers with implementing change, and created role models for future generations. The work continues to make a meaningful difference in the sector with considerable support from employers and learning providers.

Founder and CEO of Pathway Group Safaraz Ali spoke passionately about the journey the organisation has been on, the challenges, the successes, and the changes.

“It is important that we look at the changes taking place around, and we listen to people and act on feedback. We have listened and we have evolved and we hope to continue to make a difference to individuals and organisations.”

Safaraz Ali,

Chair & Founder of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards
